Short Term Memory Loss

Short Term Memory Loss Doesn't Have to Mean A Loss of Your Independence

Your I can do it! Memory Loss product is a great solution to many suffering from what can be a crippling life experience." Simon Healy, Director, Senioragency New Zealand

There are multiple reasons that you might be suffering from short term memory loss.

It may be:

  • Temporary
  • A gradual process that takes over ones life permanently
  • You have lost your memory as a result of a bran injury
  • Part of the aging process or
  • A genetic inclination.
What ever the reason may be it is very frustrating for you being afflicted and your family. Without strategic coping tools it can mean a total loss of independence for you. For sure you are experiencing some of the following;
  • Family members feel the burden because they have to assume responsibility for everyday mundane tasks that were once easily accomplished by you.
  • You most probably resent being treated like a child and feel as though you are being patronised.
  • You may become very defensive and try to compensate or hide the fact that you can not remember certain things.
  • You may forget to take medication or take too much medication, which can be lethal.
  • You may let people down because you forget a promise you have made to be somewhere .

Unfortunately, when you google memory tools a lot of things come up relating to adding memory to your system or RAM, but beyond medications I could not find any practical tools to aid an individual to get through each day independantly. All of the books refer to using to do lists, using organisers etc. but I could not find a practical tool to aid in daily living.

You know what they say use it or lose it! It is really important to;

  • eat well balanced meals
  • get exercise regularly
  • keep stress to a minimum
  • get a good nights sleep
  • play a lot of games

Memory LossGames like scrabble, crossword puzzles, word finds, bridge, chess, Sudoku etc. Reading and broadening your world it great for brain cells.

It's humiliating for a grown person to go from being very productive and completely independent to having to rely on someone else for the most basic things like;

  • eating breakfast
  • taking your medication
  • leaving the house on time
  • cleaning
  • taking out the rubbish
  • carpool
  • doing the laundry etc.

Its is very effective to have visual prompts to remind you to do the things that you already know how to do.

This way you can rely on a visual aid instead of depending on another person to do all of the remembering for you. It eliminates all of the negative emotions, like frustration, from the equation and allows a family to continue functioning with everyone making a contribution while you take responsibility. It is essential to find the right tools to accomplish this. This is definitely a realistic goal that can be achieved.
